Because when their policies are condensed into one-liners, they are mostly hard to disagree with.

Now look at a certain German party’s manifesto from the 1920s, apart from the obvious nasties, its promises would’ve been quite appealing to a lot of desperate Germans, but we know how that turned out.

Two problems I think -

1 - The type of fascism which is prevalent at the moment denies that it's fascist at all, so certain people get sucked in, or don't notice.

2 - Those of us who've tried to reason with their supporters are just so damn exhausted by the effort involved, that we just give up.

*Became*? It was political in the 1930s in a certain European country, but GOP probably don't want to think about that comparison.
