IME the reason many companies are so committed to internal documentation is because that's how they transfer and preserve knowledge internally, which enables the next group of people in the pipeline to progress the work.
Companies that don't document well enough often struggle to develop products.

My experience of pharma is research is often very well documented - to a higher standard than I've often seen in academia
Is it more accurate to say that if it isn't documented, it practically hasn't been done. Is the problem the assumption that publishing is only legit form of documentation?
