If you want a point and shoot camera that noticeably outperforms a good smartphone, it will be pretty expensive. The Sony RX100 line are brilliant for quality and size, but even 2nd hand aren’t cheap. A LUMIX T99 does lots better than phone but still around £500, so it depends on budget
