Four Carneys!

I think @radiofreetom.bsky.social was simply behind the eight ball. Those folks he kept asking to temper their use of the word simply recognized the trajectory far earlier than he did, and have continued to be proven correct over and over again.

You might note, if you care to take off your "I'm a YouTuber and make money with hot takes" hat and actually read what I wrote, that I said I wasn't saying it was a good idea or that I'd like it to happen either. I'm not your enemy, guy.
March 15, 2025 at 9:18 PM
Hah ok. Be more of a reactionary hothead.
March 15, 2025 at 9:15 PM
Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden...

Many countries that are considered progressive and happy places to live have mandatory military service.

I'm not saying it's a great idea or that I'd like it to happen, but it's hardly "lunacy". Postmedia has published far worse ideas.

And those two things (tax cuts + tariffs) are, without seeing the actual numbers, a wash if one is meant to replace the other. So they're not really addressing the deficit at all that way.
March 15, 2025 at 7:40 PM
Wait, part 1 of 3 of the US plan to reduce their deficit (unnecessary as that is) is to _cut_ taxes, thereby reducing the inflow of dollars that would offset expenses? Make that make sense.

Oh, so @jaketapper.bsky.social is complying in advance, I see.

Pulling a Schumer, is what we should start calling this.

More recently, this is the exact playbook Putin used to justify his invasion of Ukraine.

What the hell is that letter in the word "fishermen"?!

I'm not sure if you've had a chance to read this or not:

stephaniekelton.com/book/

but it'll do a much better of job of explaining it all than I (a non-expert) will.

@stephaniekelton.bsky.social is a gem
Book - Stephanie Kelton
About The Deficit Myth Vice-president Dick Cheney famously boasted, “Reagan proved deficits don’t matter.” He was wrong. Deficits do matter, but not the way we’ve been taught to believe. We’ve been to...

You're right that there's a limit to how much money can be printed to pay for things: inflation, not how much we can extract from billionaires or how much we can get away with cutting out from under the working class. Taxing the wealthy is important for re-distributive purposes, not deficit ones.
March 11, 2025 at 2:34 PM
There's a misconception that debt or deficit reduction has to be a primary focus and that there's only two ways to pay for them: Tax increases or social service cuts. Thatcher and Reagan tricked us and this isn't real. 1/2
March 11, 2025 at 2:32 PM
"Tax dodging by the extremely wealthy is why we can't pay for stuff."

No it isn't. We are a monetary sovereign and don't rely on tax dollars to pay for social services.

Tax dodging is problematic for other reasons (wealth disparity primary among them), but "paying for stuff" isn't one of them.
March 11, 2025 at 1:12 PM
Sure. I was trying to help you understand why people might be happy to see him on the scene.
March 11, 2025 at 12:55 AM
People are afraid.
A madman at the helm of the most powerful military the world has ever known is at our border threatening annexation. The leader of the Conservatives is his shadow. Carney may not be here to save the day. But he's an adult in the room who represents for people a fighting chance.
March 11, 2025 at 12:53 AM
@stephaniekelton.bsky.social I dream of you debating this guy on the stage.
March 10, 2025 at 9:54 PM
Ah. I see. Yeah, that's a little more damning.

Maybe, although the "Anti-China = anti-socialist" line might really just be someone who misunderstands - or has an incredibly simplistic understanding of - both China and Socialism.
