Yes, I loved the blue collar urgency of the great Warner's films.

MGM certainly had the budgets. I think the Warner Brothers movies have lasted better though. Their stars were less glamourous, but there was no doubting their innate talent...

Marlon's interview with Studs Terkel is on YouTube. The conversation covers a wide range of topics. It is our loss, that he fell out of love with acting, but he had many other interests. An original, for sure.

Whit Sterling( Kirk Douglas) says Jeff Bailey in 'Out Of the Past':" same old Jeff. Time proof, weather proof". That description suits the timelessness of Mitchum's soulful performances. Sydney Pollock likened him to a very powerful, but lazy horse. Willing to do as little as possible!

Loved George's dry wit. Gay Byrne interviewed the Fabs with comic Ken Dodd. The host asked Dodd:" would you ever become a singer like the chaps?". He replied:" If I was to be a singer, I would have change my name to something earthy, like Cliff or Rock". George intoned: "sod". Lol!

Yes. John's voice always moves me. He double tracked many of his vocals which gave them a kind of ghostly echo. '#9 Dream' from 1974, is especially poignant when this grim anniversary comes around.

Welles once called his friend, John Huston an:" amiable Dracula". I loved that description. He was very courtly & erudite but there was a darkness about him. His portrayal of the dastardly Noah Cross in 'Chinatown' lingers long...so sinister. Lol!

I am a portrait painter. All the top stars; Cagney, Cary Grant, Bogart etc. Nobody buys paintings in this anachronistic, digital age. Lol! The late Drew Struzan was my idol. He said when he couldn't afford materials he would draw on tissue paper or anything...such was his NEED for expression.
