Well this is interesting on Day 2 of the #metrotunnel and first weekday of operations.

The interchange between Flinders Street and Town Hall Stations is closed when trains have stopped running for the day.

The station itself is open to enter from Collins Street […]

What an amazing Day 1 for the #metrotunnel !

Thousands of people showed up to see the new stations, ride the trains and have a look around.

Everyone I've spoken to had lots of good things to say, with hopes for the improved public transport services that this […]

Using the latest release of 2024-25 data from the Department of Transport & Planning, I look at which are the most and least used railway stations in Melbourne and Victoria […]

Help me turn the State Library Victoria's digitised maps into data!

As part of my residency at the SLV LAB, I've been experimenting with using Allmaps and @IIIF to georeference the Library's maps. Georeferencing relates a digitised map to real world […]

The Transport Victoria website has been updated and now includes an "AI Chatbot" of questionable utility.

Can't answer very basic questions and doesn't seem to add much value to the website. I would rather they focus their effort on fixing the many errors and […]

TIL about Fitzroy Gardens Hospital Sunday, thanks to this handy plaque near the Fairy Garden.

These beautiful gardens have been popular with Melburnians and visitors alike for a long time. Certainly a big improvement on when it was used as a dumping ground and […]

Out of all the tens of different PIDs and screen layouts across Victoria this new one at Richmond Station on Platforms 5 & 6 is my favourite.

It includes all the necessary information and is a good layout for an interchange station like Richmond with the extra […]

Tram works on Victoria Street and Elizabeth Street are almost done.

The new tram stop on Victoria Street looks far too narrow and small to accommodate the high number of people likely to use it. It's also far from Peel Street which drastically increases the […]

First run of processing the SLV's 20,000+ digitised photos from the Committee for Urban Action to link them to geolocated road segments. A few oddities to investigate, but pretty good. Fitzroy and South Melbourne have been digitised, and a number of the goldfields towns, more will be added soon.

Melbourne #metrotunnel is special to me.
And with yesterday’s announcement, I want to now tell you why, in a thread.

I love rail maps. Inspired by Beck’s London Underground diagram since a youngster, I've long thought every big city needs a map and an UndergrounD just like London

First bus that I've seen fitted with the new myki readers. Kinetic bus 388009.

They do take up a bit more space than the older ones and are liable to be bumped into on account of the card reader jutting out - especially as they are near the doors - but they do […]

Hoddle Street is one of the major inner arterial roads in inner Melbourne. It is 10 lanes at its widest point but narrows at its southern and northern ends. This is because it wasn't always like this.

Hoddle Street used to be a fairly standard shopping street […]
