On the other hand: the phrases "victim spent hours with him" and "dog that hasn't barked" suggest that Trump hadn't partaken, at least as of the date of the email, just that he knew enough about it to be dangerous to them and they were surprised he hadn't gone public or been publically implicated.

I don't think any of them actually believed that... They see themselves as fighting trend towards dissolution and decadence that democracy itself tends to wreak. They're trying to stave off slow collapse through forceful retrieval of "strong" institutions by any means. Dumb of course

Ezra Klein says something similar now: Democrats just need *more*, a bigger umbrella that includes some radicals and some moderates, based on who can win seats where. We need politicians who work hard to actually *represent* their constituencies, as Mamdani does and as (e.g.) Joe Manchin also did.

It's pretty obvious that their best play is to let ACA benefits expire and premiums skyrocket, then blame democrats for shutting down government so the Republicans couldn't fix the problem in time.
