It's going to be a week of Phil on the radio.

As well as Playing Solitaire being the featured album on Monday's Forest Folk with Peter Aston, I'm also delighted to be speaking to Alan Ritson on his Fine Folk show on LCR FM Lincoln on Tuesday night.

Launched the album last week and played with a backing band for the first time in 6 years. It was lots and lots of fun. Huge thanks to Tim on Drums and Jamie on bass.

New entry at number 21 on the Roots Music Report UK chart!

This chart is compiled using radio plays from stations on their network. Not bad for a 3 day old album 😀

“My instinct was my navigator…when did he lose his way?”

For anyone feeling lost and full of self doubt... here's a little snippet of "Directionless", the penultimate song on Playing Solitaire. It's another one you might not have heard before and was one of the last songs written for the album.

Packing up some pre-orders ready to send. That's right, people who pre-order will get the album before it's officially released on 2nd May. If you want to be among those special folks then get over to my Bandcamp page and pre-order now.

Calling anyone in or near Sudbury, Suffolk. If you're at all interested in how a songwriter turns inspiration in to a song, then this show is for you. You don't need to be a songwriter or musician to enjoy the show, just a curious and music loving mind.

Just a few days before pre-orders open for the new album so I've uploaded another exclusive to my Ko-Fi page in the shape of an early demo of album track "Directionless".

Nectan's Glen is a hidden gem near Tintagel, Cornwall. Back in 2021 I visited and was moved to write a song about it, which is track 4 on my upcoming album "Playing Solitaire".

I've put an early demo of the song on my Ko-Fi page exclusively for supporters.

Where are my folk / americana loving people? I've a new song out especially for you. If you're in to 60s/70s singer-songwriters like Stephen Stills, James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Harry Nilsson, I'm talking to you.

After my last post as a bit of fun, I put "fan of modern folk music with a side of alt-country" in to an AI image generator. It thinks you are probably a woman, possibly dressed in denim, and probably in a wood panel room 🤣

Calling fans of modern folk music with a side of alt-country.

If you like Stephen Stills, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Wilco, Sufjan Stevens, there's a very good chance you'll like what I do.

Lovely evening videoing with Side Owl Productions.

New single out Friday!

Massive thanks to New Society Cafe for loaning us their wonderfully atmospheric space. If you're in Devizes, drop in and give them some love.

New single coming on 31st Jan

I thought it was about time to give you something that was actually new and not a recording of something I've been playing live for the last few years. You'll have only heard this if you were at one of the gigs I did in December... it was written not long before that.

At the end of February I'll be in North London for an evening of "Exploring Songwriting". I'm so excited to finally get this show on the road, I've been sitting on the idea for so many years.

It looks like Still Holding My Breath is going to be removed by Spotify for "irregular streaming patterns"

I was excited a while ago, because I was getting loads of streams from Release Radar, Spotify's own algorithmic playlist. Spotify can't trust it's own algorithm and I'm being punished for it.

It's the last Bandcamp Friday of the year today.

I've got loads of stuff at philcooper.bandcamp.com including some very reasonably price vinyl.

Get over and treat yourself to something 🎶

Coming on 29th November... my next single.

This is one that I've been playing live for a good few years. It's a bluesy-folk number about how obsessing over perfection will only ever lead to dissatisfaction.
