Unfortunately for many of us straight white men close to your age (especially those of us who were working poor), we didn't get the same opportunity as you, thus weren't as "smart".

An example I can bring up is Tip O’Neill, Dem speaker of the House. Tip said he disagreed with Reagan more than any other President. But the two managed to eat lunch once a week to talk.

That was me. Most of all I was comparing Reagan to MAGA, and how times and the GOP are far worse today. How that got buried under my stating he was a decent man (compared to Trump, for example) is beyond me. I wasn’t trying to defend him, let alone his policies, which I said I disagreed with.

They granted him immunity from everything considered part of his Presidential duties. He (his sycophants in Congress) will argue every last thing he does is part of his duties, including taking bribes. Congress is as complicit and corrupt as Trump, maybe worse.

That is good, but it’s too bad that it took tax credits to do that.
November 17, 2025 at 7:45 PM
The entire Republican Party has gone from being parasitic to cannibalistic. This will not end well.
November 17, 2025 at 7:43 PM
I’m a little older than you, but you’re not wrong. Except it’s far worse today. Even Ronald Reagan would be primaried by MAGA today. I disagreed with a lot of his policies, but he was a fairly honest, well-meaning man.

The only “left” of today are people like Bernie Sanders (an independent), AOC, who mostly focus on inequality. But they are marginalized by the Dem party. Look at how hard the Dems fought Mamdani in NY, with Cuomo leaving the party and threatening to move to Florida if Mamdani was elected.

10% wealth tax. Tax income over $1m a year at 70%. Tax capital gains over $1m at 70%. Raise corporate tax to 50%, but allow labor under $100k as a tax perk to offset this.

These are old school Democratic ideas, but the modern Dems are terrified of losing donors and won’t consider anything close.
November 16, 2025 at 9:28 PM
Certainly on most all economic issues. Current Dem establishment is much more economically conservative than the days of Nixon, Ford, Howard Baker, even Bush Sr.
November 16, 2025 at 8:27 PM
Every time the US has enacted corporate tax cuts key things happen: The corporations hoard the profits, often buying back their own stock; they don't invest it, certainly not in jobs. The deficit is increased. Wealth inequality is increased. The economy doesn't grow any faster than it did before.

Because it doesn't grant you a life of luxury and privilege with the oligarch class when your political career is over.
November 16, 2025 at 5:49 PM
This is maybe the dumbest thing the GOP could do as it will just drag everything out even more.

Their best bet is to do a total dump of everything in a haphazard mess on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Then hope journos report on such wide ranging events that the public is overwhelmed. Maybe.

I think you’ve nailed it. It seems few people are thinking this through.
November 15, 2025 at 2:38 AM
And the story is about a 15 year old boy raping a 12 year old girl at a church camp. Just…wow.
November 14, 2025 at 1:45 AM
Correct. I believe it’s Liberty Vote. I won’t be shocked if these are actually rigged in the future.

Teslas are arguably disposable cars for wealthy people. Hence, he makes more money if you just buy a new car from him when your old Tesla’s battery dies.

Currently at risk of overproduction (not an awful thing, but leads to business anxiety), but it’s also a shame it’s impossible for China, even heavily private/capitalist car companies there (BYD is traded on the HKEX even), are banned from being sold in the US, or “tariffed” into oblivion.

Sure. But how? That’s not a plan of any sort. It’s a pitch, ripe for turning into an empty promise. You need specifics:
• End Gerrymandering
• Cap campaign spending.
• Overturn Citizens United (and a few others).
• Restrict lobbyists to public forums.
• Term limits for Congress, and Judges.

Unfortunately, the crux of what Marx (and Engles) wrote about: workers having some control over the means of their production, rarely came to fruition in the USSR. Look up what happened in Yugoslavia though. Worker co-ops were common. As was freedom to travel.

His "plan" is to have us go back to how things were before Obamacare. And preferably before Medicare and Medicaid. You want healthcare? Pay for it yourself! That's their thinking. After all, we saw on 12/4, and the days after, how everyone loves United Heathcare.

In 300 characters or less.

Sure.

Definitely dark, chilly and damp here in Oregon for 5 months of the year. But the city is slowly getting better. Cleaner, less homeless, hopefully some business coming back. New mayor (Wilson) not a wizard, but seems much more assertive than the last guy.
November 4, 2025 at 12:42 AM
Maybe you can house Cuomo after he loses this election. He's threatened to move there. Toss him in a closet in Mar-a-Lago, next to Rudy.
