And I just can’t imagine another team was willing to make him a DP. Could we not have signed him with a three year guaranteed max-TAM deal? Or anything else that wouldn’t put this albatross around our neck

It’s crazy on the face of it. A waste of a precious resource if we are trying to be competitive. No new DP player, or only 1 DP at the cost of U22 plus $2M GAM. It’s a big limitation in this league.
But none of that is the worst part. The worst part is making this move BEFORE hiring a SD.

We could always switch to the 3 DP model. We have more flexibility with U22s. But losing that extra $2M in GAM might make it tough for us to fix a lot of what we need in the non-DP portion of the roster.

🤞That would be way better than us using a DP slot on him. I’m all for us paying Burki above market based on his value to the team. Though I read @tombogert.bsky.social‘s post to imply the insane possibility that he’ll actually be taking up a DP slot.

I’d love for this to be true. Is that reported info? Or just logical because it would be so absolutely insane to give Burki a greater than max-TAM salary, limit our ability to get needed talent, and tie a new SD’s hands before they are chosen?
