Thank you to Deep Vellum for this honor. "Coffee, no sugar" by Sveta Ben, translated from the Russian by Yana Kane, with Bruce Esrig "The Man I Made of Wood" by Asaf Halet Celebi, translated from the Turkish by Inan Mayis Aru "Untitled ('Start by showing...')" by Oleg Ladyzhensky, translated from the Russian by Yana Kane, with Bruce Esrig "From 'Canciones de varias tierras (Songs from Several Lands)'" by Antonio Machado, translated from the Spanish by Gerald Friedman "Secret Transfusion" by Marin Sorescu, translated from the Romanian by Daniel Nemo Secret Transfusion Firs heal their cuts by dripping resin day and night, the way swans cover themselves in oil so water doesn’t touch their sails. If each fir poured a little resin for no reason, just like that, for the world’s hurt overall… This fir, a drop, that one, another— How much universal sadness would a forest ease! I feel like I’m healing from a fright, Lord, what candle burns for me in the wind on some far, far-away rock?
