27, she/her, do art but not a lot or very quickly. This isn't an "art account" so much as it is a personal account, where I also post art.
I got my new mask in and I REALLY like how it feels. Also it looks sick as hell.

I'm Star, I draw and do a little digital painting. I'm also a burnout who does too much weed so I draw like once a month. But Metroid is the reason I became an artist and stay one to this day. If you know me from Twitter, you probably have seen my loudmouth opinions. Follow for more!

I got a new Polaris comm from @tsutsunotsumi.bsky.social
of her dressed as my main in Marvel Rivals. I told myself I wouldn't do a hero shooter again and then got hooked by a cool robot. Thanks to Tsutsunotsumi for and go check out oomf's art

I'm the worst. Really loving these Peni buffs, she feels so good to play

It is, Prime 3 was doing Marvel Dialogue before Marvel was doing it.

Hey look at that, Samus has a nerdy fangirl too. Metroid Prime 4: Yuri confirmed. Beyond Heterosexuality.

I think I've realized that I feel much more comfortable with a mask on than without it, so fuck it, this is my face now.

She's a grouchy one

I made a fucked up and way too heavily augmented cyberpsycho Polaris variant for a shared setting with my good friends @gvr0beetl3.bsky.social and @fangfkr.bsky.social. You won't see much of this version of her given the *nature* of the setting, but I figured someone here would enjoy this !

They just couldn't help themselves.

I could talk about the book all day, but I'll stop here! The book should have had commentary from the artists themselves, I was hoping for a deeper insight into the creative process. However I'm still extremely pleased to see my favorite game of all time get this treatment, 20 years later.

Metroid Prime 3's art direction is much more painterly and steeped in heavy shadows. These drawings of Rundas also strongly remind me of Wayne Barlowe's work on books such as Expedition.

This concept drawing of the Dark Suit is fascinating to me. It's hard to tell if this was meant to be under the armor, or if the Dark Suit was imagined to look this stripped back and muscular. You can also see the deltoid/pauldron shape might have been reused for the PED Suit in Metroid Prime 3.

Metroids. Retro's artists have a really fascinating blend of the organic and mechanical, particularly in the first drawing, where the Metroid's "veins" have the appearance of circuitry.

Many of the very earliest drawings for the titular Metroid Prime are abstract crab-like creatures, but this one is distorted human-like body, and it's abdomen has the face and "tusks" present on Mother Brain in the first Metroid game. I guess the initial idea was that they were connected somehow?

Getting into the Creature's section. Tanabe adds some commentary about how Retro's artists took some time to adapt to the gameplay driven design philosophy of Nintendo, and these drawings nicely show the learning curve. However I cannot ignore that this baboon creature visibly has a penis.

Space Pirates. Many of these drawings show Space Pirates with knobbly, lobster-like exoskeletons with machinery crudely grafted onto and drilled into their bodies. Many drawings, suchas the Elite Pirate concept on the right, show Metroid-like tissue in their equipment or spliced with their bodies.

These concepts for the Phazon Suit are fascinatingly grotesque, which mirrors the appearance of other Phazon corrupted entities in the game. I feel these drawings are too chaotic for the game we got, but the idea is compelling. It was a surprise to learn that a recolor wasn't always the plan.

I call this "Ridley dying in a glue trap." There's quite a few concepts for Ridley's appearance, which seem to be by the same artist, which show Ridley with a short, muscular neck, a deep barrel-like chest with a prominent breastbone, and avian legs. It's an unusually anatomical take on him.

This segment shows how the art team tinkered with the look of Samus's pauldrons to preserve the round shape, while also creating the impression of mobility in her shoulder. This iterative concept drawing is very cool to me, I wish there was more of this in the book.

A storyboard for the Morph Ball acquisition. I guess the fan conjecture that the Prime Morph Ball works by converting Samus to energy is true, and in fact this cutscene was going to be more explicit about it. The skeleton feels appropriate for today.

I recently got the Metroid Prime 1-3 Visual Retrospective artbook, and since I'm feeling that fixation on Metroid firing up, so I'm going to post some discoveries I found interesting in this book! #Metroid
