「仁人之事者,必務求興天下之利,除天下之害。然當今之時,天下之害孰為大?若大國之攻小國也,大家之亂小家也,強之劫弱,眾之暴寡,詐之謀愚,貴之敖賤,此天下之害也。」
does this imply that in this universe the left wing party is red and the right wing party is blue?

for a broad view of korea "a history of korea" by michael seth is decent

it's in the same realm to me as disappearing polymorphs. they just freak me out in the same way

i was also scared of prions as a child! granted i grew up in britain at a time where every so often you'd hear about a vCJD death on the news

if i clock insincerity it cancels it all out for me too, but i am in the 99th percentile for neuroticism so

tbf short haul flights are the worst emitters per kilometre flown - a 200km flight emits about twice the amount of a 250km drive
November 16, 2025 at 1:45 PM
my flight emissions were 486kg this year for a round trip distance of ~7000km. that's 69 grams of CO2 for every kilometre. a car would use ~150 grams of CO2 every kilometre

if one listens to elizabeth i/ii's speeches from the start and end of her reign there's definitely a noticeable change

biofuel is better than conventional but i'd hesitate to call it a solution tbh, the emissions impacts are still there
November 16, 2025 at 10:56 AM
i think it's best to implement the solutions to solved problems (electricity generation, road travel) while we wait for the technology to catch up to unsolved problems (air travel), and this will be much more efficient in reducing overall carbon emissions
November 16, 2025 at 10:51 AM
only 2% of carbon emissions are caused by aviation though, compared to like 10% for road travel. in some cases flying is actually less damaging to the environment than driving! and road travel emissions already have a solution, unlike aviation emissions yet

birmingham to amsterdam by flixbus is 46€ and takes 18 hours. by easyjet it's 27€ and takes 1 hour
November 16, 2025 at 10:15 AM
aviation is one of the few areas where low/zero-emissions capability is still very nascent (~15 years away) so as the share of carbon emissions for electricity generation/other transport/residential use shrinks, aviation will take up more despite usage remaining similar. the real problem is farming

also we're on an archipelago! of course people living here fly more!

my teeth are perfectly healthy but crooked and i'm terrified of getting comments from americans about them
November 15, 2025 at 10:50 PM
well there's also grouse shooting here (which takes up an insane amount of land for how few people do it)
November 15, 2025 at 9:13 PM
in america hunting is done with guns, in britain it's done with dogs
November 15, 2025 at 9:10 PM
welcome to britain
