First time revisiting Little Women (2019) since Barbie and this was a damn fine adaptation that captures the pleasures of the source material but also works like Gillian Armstrong's My Brilliant Career (1979).

Absolutely need Criterion to upgrade The Lovers (1958) and Trouble in Paradise (1932) to blu-ray from DVD, as well. I know they're prioritizing 4K upgrades but I hate having to double-dip and offload recent purchases.

-finally went to Tokyo Disneysea (not Disneyland)
-second time at Pokémon Cafe
-went to the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka on the last day of my trip. It was magical.

-took advantage of the exchange rate + tax free savings on 2 secondhand handbags and a new watch
-re-upped on Koh Gen Do foundation, Shu Uemura cleansing oil, and Suqqu limited holiday items
-got one of those oversized winter coats that don't overwhelm a petite frame

-had a milk egg at Meikyoku Kissa Lion, a classical music cafe that I first learned of from Mozart in the Jungle s4
-got a reservation at Hikiniku to Come for a delicious hamburg steak set
-went to Kanazawa to see Kenrokuen Garden
-waited 3+ hours in a line of mostly locals for oden on a rainy day

Timely to watch after I just got back from a 2.5-week Japan trip. I miss these JR lines already!

Verdict on Up, Down, Fragile: it's as if it absorbed, chewed up, and oozed out Jacque Demy and Gene Kelly movies in a good way. Immaculate vibes. Great outfits. I need to get myself some mary janes.

Verdict on Joy House: good eye candy. Had to watch with the French dub so Alain Delon's character does not sound as twerpy as he does in the English version, minimizing his hotness. Fonda outshines him here.

A Great Wall is also an overlooked gem in Asian American cinema. Was so surprised by how resonant its observations on liminal identities were. Deserves to be in conversation with other pioneer AAPI 80s films like Chan is Missing. My favorite discovery (now streaming on Criterion Channel).

Also can't wear high-waist and tuck anything without cutting off half the design for most of these 😭
