My advice for them would be to try another book by you. I had an author whose first book I read and enjoyed. Their second one, I got about 100 pages in and just had to give up as I couldn't get "into" it. I then read their 3rd book (set in the same fantasy universe as the 2nd) & really enjoyed it.

(2/2) Online searches show me I'm not alone - and people recommended that I try the next book, which I did, and enjoyed.
If you're not enjoying a book, there's no sense in forcing yourself to finish it!

(1/2) I agree. I've only had this problem once that I can remember in the 50ish years I've been reading!
It was a book that I got about 100 pages in and just couldn't get into... I'd read the author's previous book, that's why I kept going & I've read a later one, but that one just wasn't for me!
