The study of ancient climate was interrupted by modern weather making amazing double rainbows this afternoon. Five minutes prior to this scene I asked my students if they wanted to see a rainbow in five minutes, LOL. My science cred is strong with this group.

The Stanislaus State campus ginkgos are looking splendid post-rain this morning. Definitely taking my History of Earth and Life Lab to collect leaves this afternoon so we can make some rubbings and compare to gigamacro fossil specimen.

My favorite ginkgo at THS (and all of Turlock) is juuuust starting to turn for the season. It’s about 500m from my house. It’s also 100m away from our community theater that is hosting Cheap Trick tonight. I hope it rocks out for me since Sunday nights = school nights.

Nice to have a stormy day that we can enjoy at home. I’ve measured 1.86” at my house since last night & 4.77” since the start of the water year on October 1st. By far the best start since I started keeping data in 2012. Avg is 1.19”. In the 2013-14 drought we had 5.06” for entire year! #cawx

Still raining in Turlock. We’re just over 1.5” since Saturday night and the AR doesn’t seem to be budging at the moment. #cawx. Started out getting wrap around rain from east (uncommon) and now from north.

Niiice. I was stewing a few days ago and browning in batches. It is so crazy how much of a difference cast iron makes.

Number ones only, apparently.

A tale of two years at the Ione clay mine pits with @geotripper.bsky.social’s MJC geology field trip of the Central Motherlode. We are using our imagination this morning, LOL.

Happy Friday’s Eve from Jasper.

McGee Creek Camp is on of our favorite, less-developed sites on the east side of the Sierra.

Did not feel, but my @raspishake.bsky.social did!

Me and the birds are enjoying the rain. Already .28” in Turlock as of 715am. #cawx. Plenty more to come.

I mean, I do a pretty good impression.

Jasper is solar powered, I think.

:-) I’ll have Olympus Mons for the space nerds too.

They’ll be in the mix! (These are old colors from last year)

I can run a few, I suppose :-)

It’s been a crazy busy semester, but I’m cranking up production of my LiDAR-derived, 3D-printed volcano tissue box covers for the holidays. I hope to have a massive offering (50+) sometime near Thanksgiving. Here’s a sneak peak Will also have Etna and Stromboli! Etsy link in my profile.

The clouds may have taken my aurora, but they will never take my bread cooling and crackling.

Well, we did t see any fall colors, but our small hike around Pinecrest Lake did result in a very close and very cool encounter with a bald eagle. Didn’t see it go fishing but there were hundreds of trout surfacing throughout day, so it won’t be going hungry.

Got to hang out with my BFF’s of 30yrs this weekend where we took turns wearing each other’s glasses and doing impressions that came to mind. Enjoy my terrible Will Ferrell impression of Harry Caray. There are still a few drops of joy in the world.

Spending a guys weekend up in Truckee hills with BFF’s of more than 30yrs, and boy do we have a neat view of a foggy inversion over the Truckee River valley.
