You can read my barely-updated blog at phalanxhead.dev - I sometimes write tutorials for the shit I found hard to learn at work

Okay different take - a lot of this vibe coded software is going to become abandonware in a tenth the time than even most short-lived hand-written software

Coupling your skills to something that won’t be maintained by Christmas seems like a dumb idea to me idk

Oop I should’ve clicked through on what they’ve built lol

Ignore this 😅

For this kind of (I assume) simple site generation decades ago - they’ll likely treat you better overall

I get the vibe, and I nominally agree with your thought process

But honestly there’s no industry that’s been more keen to make LLMs do their shit work than IC coders (like, percentage-wise)

I wouldn’t feel guilty about not paying some poor developer.

That said, they had easy tools…

Wait you already know this, ignore me

It’s drops the next byte, leaving the equals sign, and in that case it probably dropped the leader of a UTF8 character, maybe emoji.

Which thus makes the next 3 bytes not register as UTF8, so it renders the underlying ascii instead. Which is nonsense.

TLDR: don’t use windows
February 8, 2026 at 2:02 PM
Long story short - this is Windows’ fault

All the = signs are supposed to be part of a line terminator character for old email (=\r\n) when a line overflows 76 characters.

Windows with certain flags will drop the \r, then the email client basically says “I can’t render that?”
February 8, 2026 at 2:02 PM
The Unicode error after the = probably indicates that whatever the lead byte of whatever UTF-8 nonsense was there was dropped instead of the = and now the character doesn’t make sense so it won’t render
February 8, 2026 at 1:56 PM
The equals signs are just a Windows MIME encoding thing (emails are cursed, and clients are supposed to wrap at 76 characters with a “wrap indicator” of =\r\n, but windows will oftentimes drop the \r and then the email client drops the next character instead of the = because it’s all stupid)

I feel like after Patrick Page’s baritone it’d be underwhelming to cast anyone with a different vocal range in the role but like

Idk could be good, could be fun

I don’t follow, that’s not connected to anything I just said

It’s impossible for someone to give a shit about politics until right before an election either.

Thats why Australia runs very high profile polls… monthly? That can’t be right.
February 7, 2026 at 12:47 AM
Damn dude, if a few trans people complaining about some loser politician is enough to alienate you from trans people, you must have absolutely no moral fibre - that’s coward shit
