Perhaps the nipple should only be halfway through a shitposting thread. At least make 'em work for it!

And also, kids bounce when they fall over. That gets harder and harder as you get older :)

if you see this you should

1) post an intro to #promosky, it’s meant to help folks from X find each other & can be a good little exposure bump

2) follow my side account @realnsfw.social so we can get you in our feeds over there, and welcome to use #realNSFW any time on your media

I'm in the same boat! Last time I ventured onto the canal there was a lot of flailing, and one small child overheard asking, "Mom, what's wrong with that man? Why can't he skate properly?"

Much as I'd like to draw out Elon's suffering as he watches it die, I think it's in the best interests of the world if its demise comes as soon as possible :)

Okay, that was a lot, and I think I've covered most of the big stuff, so I'm going to stop now.

A final word: everything in this thread is my somewhat fuzzy recollection of what more knowledgeable folks than me have posted in the past. The wisdom is theirs; the mistakes are mine alone.

Personally I'm not a fan - people are strange and will put you on all sorts of lists for all sorts of random reasons, and you'll never know what they are or whether it was justified, and there's nothing you can do about it anyway. Knowing this stuff is just... bad for the soul.

14. There are tools which allow you to see what lists you're on (Clearsky is the big one), and who's blocked you (blocks are public; mutes are not).

I don't really use blocklists for this reason - but I'm not a particular target for abuse, so YMMV.

You can end up blocking people you want to hear from, simply because someone put them on a list for reasons unknown... and the only way to fix that is to unsubscribe from the list, assuming you notice it at all.

The problem here is that it puts enormous power in the hands of the list owner: you have to *really* trust them to only add the right accounts (trolls/bots/nazis/whatever), and not use it for personal vendettas, or petty revenge, or anything like that (this is, alas, something that happens).

13: Moderation lists (also called blocklists) are set up by users to mass-block bad actors. If you subscribe to a blocklist, you can mute or block everyone on it. This is a hugely powerful weapon, but... use with caution.

12. The Bluesky way is: don't engage, just block (or mute). Do not feed the trolls. Blocking them starves them of attention and this is a remarkably good way to send them back to twitter. Block, forget, move on.

But this prevents a troll's friends from dogpiling on you, because they can no longer see which post the troll was replying to. Which is great!

11. Blocking: assholes exist, alas. Bots and trolls and other undesirables are here too. Our secret weapon is... blocking. The block here removes all links between your posts and the person's you blocked, which breaks threads and quotes (it's more obvious what I mean here when you see it).

10. You can set up permissions on your posts to control who can reply, repost, quote, etc - either for your account, or for each post. Same with who can DM you. You may want to do this.

Good feed descriptions often have some indication of how to get your own posts in there (hashtags to use, who to contact to be added to the list, shit like that) so pay attention to that if you care about it.

Subscribing to feeds is a great way to see content you're interested in. Getting your posts into the right feeds is probably the best way of reaching many people who would be interested in it. So: go to the feeds page, search for some interesting-sounding ones, and subscribe!

Feeds are set up by users (I'm not getting into how, this thread is long enough already) according to whatever criteria they want - they may be based on keywords, hashtags, a list of approved posters, or all sorts of other stuff. Some are curated better than others.
