I do know someone who said they didn't want to join in with a ritual because they hadn't read enough books yet, which is particularly odd to us old-timers because there were very few books to read.

As someone who has been part of covens, I can affirm that it is at community events like study groups where we get to know people and evaluate them as potential coven members.

It was true in some places. High school graduates in Peoria, Illinois could get good-paying union jobs at Caterpillar right out of school. Then in 1994-1995 Cat broke the UAW and that was the end of the company town. I had a business in Peoria. It was an ugly time and my store closed.

Back in the '90s I lived in a major NC city which had a prolonged drought. After it finally rained, they said we had been six weeks away from having to evacuate the city. Made the news basically nowhere.
