I want technology that serves people, not the other way around. Love books, Star Wars, Liverpool FC and the sea.
Russia invades Ukraine - the "right-centrist" immediately claim it's a breach of international law.
USA abducts a citizen of a country and bombs it - the same people immediately say it's OK because he's a dictator.
Oh, than why didn't the US abduct Putin?
You right-wing-centrist lot disgust me...

Generative AI has no purpose and that's why it will either turn into the next Facebook/Twitter-like toxic virtual cesspool or it will be the next Metaverse "project" that fails miserably.

I think genAI lacks purpose and that will be the major reason why it will fail to impact society positively. Similarly to the blockchain technology, genAI was launched commercially without any real ...

AI myths are being busted! The last few days are a period of busting a lot of myths about AI, its future and its regulation: “Stargate is going to launch AI into the stratosphere in just a few mon...

A lot of evidence is being produced that ChatGPT and friends are neither very reliable, nor very accurate. On top of that come effects like addiction. And people feel good using it for psychological help because they see their thoughts written down, not because ChatGPT is good at therapy.
“Just calm down and let people enjoy chatgpt.” Sorry, no. I find it creepy that folks are treating a machine that mimics human speech as their friend / therapist. It is feeding you lies. It is destroying your thinking abilities. Shut it off. Talk to other humans. Go outside.

I think GenAI is dragging everyone towards being average. For example, if you are poor at writing, ChatGPT will make you look better without any effort on your part. However, if you are already an excellent writer, GenAI is making you worse, because it pulls you back towards the average.

AI can and should not replace real-life relationships. And whoever thinks it's good as a therapist: I think all generative AI tools can fake understanding and validation pretty well, but are useless for any real psychological help, which involves uncomfortable conversations, not only validation.
This morning I will be on TVNZ Breakfast show (remotely) to discuss chatbots! Specifically, we will talk a bit about the findings from these studies in plain language, and what they mean for everyday users: www.theguardian.com/technology/2...
Heavy ChatGPT users tend to be more lonely, suggests research
Studies show those who engage emotionally with bot rely on it more and have fewer real-life relationships

Another huge issue with GenAI that makes me think more and more do we really need that technology right now...
“They [chatbots] are actually using algorithms that are antithetical to what a trained clinician would do…Our concern is that more and more people are going to be harmed. People are going to be misled, and will misunderstand what good psychological care is.”
Human Therapists Prepare for Battle Against A.I. Pretenders
Chatbots posing as therapists may encourage users to commit harmful acts, the nation’s largest psychological organization warned federal regulators.

Even Microsoft (!!!) is now writing studies about the negative effects of genAI on critical thinking. Let's see if anyone will take action based on that, I doubt that Microsoft will suddenly stop pushing their AI agenda as well, even though they now it's detrimental...

On the AI summit:
What in the name of hell is an "AI race"? Who is racing here and where is the finish line and what's behind the finish line?
I have completely lost trust in any politicians on the topic of AI and I am slowly realizing that they haven't got any clue what they are talking about.

JD Vance speaking at the AI Summit is a clear signal that the Trump Administration is absolutely enamoured by Big Tech and will do everything in their power to protect Big Tech's interest. I don't know why I am stating this as if it's surprising though, absolutely expected. Hope EU stays the course

To all the Europeans out here - we must start acting and pushing our politicians and companies to retain our focus on humans in our political systems, resist the ultra-right and unite behind democracy and human rights. Sustainability should not only be a buzzword, we have to fill it with meaning.

It is completely irresponsible to allow Big Tech unlimited, unregulated go at artificial intelligence. It's like letting a little child run around with scissors in one hand and a loaded gun in another, hoping that all will be fine, while leaving the child alone with the cake...

Politics is not like chess, it's like poker - it's all about bluffing, luck, and playing the odds at the right time. If it were like chess, we would have had much better leaders. Same with AI leaders at the moment - they are not as smart as we all think, they are bluffing their way to power.

There are many studies being published that claim AI is actually detrimental for human cognition and critical thinking. After using Claude, Gemini and ChatGPT, I can only agree - those tools are useful as assistants that you need to double-check constantly, but are really hurting my writing skills.

Seeing what Meta is doing reminds me why we should absolutely press on with tech regulation in Europe and don't give in to corporate greed and techno-lunacy. I am really hoping the EU does not budge, because the future should be created by responsible, ethical people, not by ultra-rich maniacs...

Technology without a specific purpose other than making huge profits for its creators is more harmful than advantageous. Case in point: X, Facebook, ChatGPT. These tools have good uses, but since they were created mostly for profit, the misuses will be many, many more. That's why we need regulation.
January 9, 2025 at 7:22 AM
Am I the only one terrified not by the new technology itself, but by who gets to create it and spread it and profit from it? I would love to live in a tech-enhanced utopia, but I think we are instead heading to a tech-enhanced nightmare, where a few corporations and their CEOs rule the world.

I am really irritated that a bunch of tech bros have taken over policy and governance. Just because they understand technology does not mean they have any idea about how society and politics work. This fetish we have developed for STEM sciences empowers people who have no clue about governance.

Ca. 90% of (AI) startups fail in the US. Interestingly, some sources say that in Germany (a highly regulated state) the startup failure rate is around 75%, which is lower than the US. No article mentions regulation costs as one of the main reasons of failure. But regulation stifles startups, right?

An interesting question for me is whether GenAI is helping with boosting productivity for meaningful tasks or whether it just helps in creating more "garbage" that masks problems? Do we really need content created faster or do we need better content? Less AI-generated nonsense would be amazing...

I'm new to posting in social media, as both Twitter and Facebook are so toxic that I always failed to see the point of engaging there. This looks like a better version of social media, and proof that technology can and should work for the people, not for narcissistic maniacs who control it.
