Strongly recommending @gatetheatredublin.bsky.social's production of THE PILLOWMAN. Lovely balance of cruelty and tenderness in the acting, design, direction - confirming my hunch that this is Martin McDonagh's best play.

Will be going again for definite.

I'm a couple of years late to it but am exceptionally impressed by Audrey Magee's the Colony. Feels thematically important but also so precise on the small details of ordinary lives.

Coming up at the O'Donoghue Theatre here in Galway - our third years' production of the Beaux Strategem, directed by Aideen Wylde. They are rehearsing next door to my office and I can already tell that this is going to be a great one!

Not for the first time, I'm wondering why theatre critics and marketing people use words like 'searing', 'blistering', and 'compelling' to tell us that a play is worth seeing.

Doesn't it make theatre seem a bit, I don't know, Spanish Inquisition-ish?

I was impressed by THE DEAD at @molimuseum.bsky.social by Anu and Landmark - performances and design were excellent and the script found new things to say, about Lily especially. On the way home we passed the house on Usher's Island where the story is set - looking very forlorn and neglected, sadly.

A wonderful night of celebration at the Palas in Galway yesterday for the Galway launch of THAT THEY MAY FACE THE RISING SUN. Exceptionally proud to see the University of Galway logo in the credits too! It really is one of the best Irish films in a very long time - everyone should see it.

A book about the ultimate nature of reality, as seen through Borges, Heisenberg, and Kant - and, amazingly, it's readable, entertaining, and enlightening in equal measures. Enjoying it a lot - the Rigor of Angels, by William Egginton.
