Rapamycin is a fascinating molecule. I worked on it in the late eighties (89-91). Suren Sehgal was a friend of mine. We had a Costco Mayonnaise sized jar of the stuff that we were trying to make analogs of. A few patents and papers came out of it and then I left for greener pastures.

This is going back about 40 years ago so I may be remembering it wrong, but seems like I displaced an aryl bromide with benzyl mercaptan using DBU in benzene and then removed the benzyl with a sodium in ammonia reduction to give the aryl mercaptan. So that's a different sulfur delivery agent.

"Inaccuracies and failures" is a little rough, don't you think? We know proteins are dynamic and can be induced to form alternative states when presented with environments not sampled in the PDB. The failure is on the researcher who thinks Alphafold or the PDB presents the whole story.

My understanding is that Apple did not make a contribution to Trump's inauguration. The $1M came from Tim Cook. Not sure how the others were financed.

I tend to agree. It was an uninspired decision.
