4) The CRISPR-Cas locus was replaced with the effector XopN in Xcc. We speculate that XopN provided an immediate advantage for host infection and the concomitant loss of CRISPR unleashed the evolutionary potential. Ultimately this lead to a niche switch and vascular pathogenicity /5
