Like?? Julie Rose’s thing is modernizing the language and integrating slang— some of which is more accurate to Hugo’s intent and some of which is not. It’s like she’s attempting to “localize” as well as translate, which makes her translation very interesting.

HOORAY a fellow Julie Rose enjoyer! I love her, though she’s divisive in the Les Mis community. One of my favorite things running a yearly Les MIs book club is learning the translator lore and how they’re all subtweeting each other through their translations. It’s powerful.
