A different alternative perspective: because retail investors now almost exclusively use index funds, index funds are inside history's largest and most well-distributed asset bubble and we have no idea what the consequences of that will be.

An alternative perspective: the average return on an index fund is not 10% in real terms over the average time span. Equities have increased a lot recently, so if you look at various time spans *ending in today* it looks like that. But backwards from an average year it's different.

Special versions of things and some stuff ultra-fresh are both relevant. As is never having to waste a carrot, because they keep fresh in the ground for months. But the main reason is just that I like developing the skill and understanding plants. I grew my own wheat, made flour and bread.
