The challenge of The New York Times crossword is in learning how to interpret the clues as if all of your cultural touchstones are that of a 70 year old crossword editor from new york.

I tried a bunch of options while doing research and found I liked acrobat reader’s annotate function on my laptop. It’s good for adding little post-it like comments on the page that you can search through later. I’m sure any pdf reader would do it.

Like yes, of course it’s difficult. You’re trying to get consistent results from a statistical model. They are not meant to give the correct answer, only the most likely answer according to their training data

This seems like a tremendously inefficient way to go about solving the problem when I can get better results from manually reconstructing the game.

Given a still from a level in Quake, I can tell you with certainty what you will see if you turn to the right. The same cannot be said of Minecraft.
April 5, 2025 at 11:40 PM
This is likely because the footage it was trained on was of a single level in Quake instead of the procgen worlds in Minecraft.

It’s like they don’t understand AI fundamentally cannot produce consistency. It’s exquisite corpse the video game

“Hallucination” is a feature of these models, not a problem. You can’t solve it with more statistics models.
March 27, 2025 at 3:57 PM
Any attempt to fix this aspect of these models is misguided.
March 27, 2025 at 3:51 PM
The models are fundamentally statistical prediction machines so they can’t make 100% correct attributions. They’ll just make a guess.
