enjoyed Death by Lightning, Netflix's miniseries about James Garfield's assassination by an all-time American weirdo. felt a little rushed bc it's only four episodes, but strong performances throughout, and I enjoyed learning more about an era of American history we mostly skipped over in school.

i really took to Michael Jai White's new movie Trouble Man. a loving, low-budget '70s genre throwback, and Method Man is _so_ funny in it. the extremely low-budget VFX makes it all the more endearing. free with a library card on Hoopla

one of my favorite parts of D(e)ad is the sibling relationship between @izball.bsky.social's character and @vicmmic.bsky.social's
Question: Izzy, your sister is played by Vic Michaelis, and the two of you have such a wonderful way of sibling bickering in the movie. Did that come naturally? Roland: It really did. I love them very, very much, and this experience really only brought us closer. But they understood what I was trying to get across as soon as they read the script. I was really, really influenced by Fleabag and the sister relationship in that. As soon as they read it, they were like This feels like Fleabag. I was like, Oh my god, it’s not even my birthday. This is the best thing you could have possibly said. Having improvised together a lot, we’re able to set the tone pretty easily. They’re just amazing. I was filled with regret casting them because they were so good, and I was like Oh, they’re doing a much better performance than I am.

Q: What’s your wish for the future of gaming journalism? A: First of all, I want to see more emphasis on weird projects. Obviously, GTA VI is going to be what everyone is talking about forever and like, understandably so. But I just love all of the weird, smaller projects that are coming out: One-man games or small teams or passion projects created over years that don't have a massive pedigree or advertising budget, but are just inventive and interesting and curious and weird. I'm worried that as outlets fade away, those are the games that are going to get lost in the shuffle. For instance, with the horror genre, there are YouTubers like Alpha Beta Gamer or ManlyBadassHero, and they'll play through things and do a good job. Obviously, they do good work, I'm not trying to disparage them at all. But also, when you watch their videos, they're just playing through the game. So I don't really think it encourages people so much to dig out the game for themselves and give it a shot. So I think being able to discover smaller projects is going to become just infinitely more difficult now, and that sucks.
