It's not just the kick. Loona was physically abusing Blitz earlier in the episode too. I love Loona, but I don't think her behavior is justified. I think it's even okay to say that Loona beating up her dad is wrong, especially since it comes right after the episode where Stella tries to hit Stolas.

Wasn't she throwing knives at him earlier that day though?

*checks episode*

Yes, yes she was.

Everyone remembers the burnt bodies of Owen and Beru. Everyone remembers the destruction of Alderaan. Who remembers a droid telling another droid to send some people to a camp that we never see? We don't feel the weight of the conflict, the stakes of the conflict.
November 14, 2025 at 11:42 PM
And my larger point, which you've never been able to refute, is 'the film would be better if we actually saw more of the impact that the occupation had on the Naboo'. A few close-ups of civilians. A quick shot or two of these work camps. A little can go a long way.
November 14, 2025 at 11:40 PM
The camps is an offhand mention, the people being led at gunpoint are never focused on, the supposed death and suffering is never shown (and might not even be happening since the message was a trick sent by the Trade Federation). The conflict lacks weight.
November 14, 2025 at 11:37 PM
You're the one not listening since you completely ignored my arguments and my larger points. Hell, I even pointed out that your video actually PROVES my points.

"someone disagrees with me" = trolling

Charlie Kirk's memorial service.

And the movie doesn't close focusing on what's in the shadows. The film literally ends with a huge celebration after the planet has been liberated thanks to the efforts of the heroes, the Naboo, and the Gungans.
November 13, 2025 at 3:06 AM
...it literally is though. The movie starts with the occupation of Naboo and ends with the liberation. If the film isn't about freeing Naboo, then why do we get FOUR SEPERATE battles in the third act that revolve around freeing the planet from the Trade Federation.
November 13, 2025 at 3:05 AM
That single moment where he ignites the lightsaber before cutting away does so much to cement Anakin's fall and the horrificness of what he's done without actually showing the violence or him cutting down the kids. Hell, Attack of the Clones does this as well with the Tusken slaughter.
November 13, 2025 at 3:03 AM
Okay, I keep bringing up how little moments can go a long way, but how about a good example of this from the prequels? Anakin leading the attack on the Jedi Temple is mostly off-screen, but we have that moment with him and the younglings. We don't see him killing the kids, but we don't need to.
November 13, 2025 at 3:01 AM
The worst that we see the Trade Federation doing in the movie is running over trees or walking people around. The impact that the occupation has on the people is always out-of-focus, unlike the impact that the Empire has on the galaxy in A New Hope.
November 13, 2025 at 2:56 AM
Like, the goal of ANH is ultimately to stop the Empire and destroy the Death Star. Actually seeing the cruel and destructive actions of both gives the third act more impact. Despite TPM revolving around freeing Naboo, there are no moments that give that goal more weight and impact.
November 13, 2025 at 2:55 AM
Nothing on the level of the Empire killing innocent moisture farmers or destroying a planet. Despite the goal of the movie being to liberate Naboo, we are not shown the impact the occupation has on the people. And the Trade Federation are still the direct threat.
November 13, 2025 at 2:54 AM
The destruction of Alderaan SHOWS us the Empire's cruelty. In The Phantom Menace, we are TOLD about all the suffering going on off-screen. But that lessens the threat of the Trade Federation, unlike the threat of the Empire which is felt through their actions in the film.
November 13, 2025 at 2:44 AM
It's obvious that Alderaan is populated. We see the Empire wipe out an entire planet filled with people just as a test of their new weapon's destructive capability, which shows the cruelty of the Empire. We get nothing like that in TPM. We hear that people are starving, but that's off-screen.
November 13, 2025 at 2:42 AM
Show, don't tell would be just saying Alderaan was destroyed without showing Alderaan being destroyed. Or in the case of The Phantom Menace, hearing about the people suffering without seeing it.
November 13, 2025 at 2:41 AM
Once again, I think all it would have taken is a few extra shots showing damaged buildings and the affected people, along with shots of people watching and cheering on Palpatine's declaration of the Empire, believing that it means an end to the violence that was just brought to them.
November 13, 2025 at 1:35 AM
When the Clone Wars is raging on Utapau or Kashyyyk, it's still very far away. But Coruscant is right on the doorstop of the Republic. And considering how much time we spend on Coruscant, I feel like it was a missed opportunity to not show more of the affect that the attack had on the world.
November 13, 2025 at 1:34 AM
The Senate are the politicians, not the people. And those other attacks happen far away from the heart of the Republic. Revenge of the Sith literally opens up with a strike right at the heart of the Republic, where the average galactic citizen thought themselves safe from the war.
November 13, 2025 at 1:33 AM
And that erasure of liberty is something that is felt by the people. Here's an example: if we saw more of the damage to Coruscant by the Separatist attack, more of how it affects the people, it would better show why people were so initially eager to welcome the new Empire.
November 13, 2025 at 1:28 AM
Don't forget, in the special editions Lucas added scenes showing the galaxy celebrating the Emperor's death in Return of the Jedi.
November 13, 2025 at 1:26 AM
I mean, the Rebel Alliance did feel like it was very much made out of the average denizen. The people who were fed up with the Empire's rule. People like Biggs and Luke.

I actually do feel like Lucas was going for political commentary, so a civilian POV would have helped.
November 13, 2025 at 1:25 AM
Coruscant, the heart of the Republic, is attacked by the Separatists and the Republic is transformed into a fascist Empire, but we never see the citizens of the Republic react to or be affected by this. It's just like how the suffering of the Naboo all happens off-screen.
