Agreed -- pushing back on the idea that Trump and the Republicans had a mandate after the 2024 election is just one of the innumerable things the Democrats could have done differently in the past year. Our current choice between Repub fascism and Dem fascism-lite isn't much of a choice ....

Maybe the media and the Democrats should have pushed back on that mandate thing.

So the Republicans have exactly the same number of people in the House as they did a year ago and "their majority is down to almost nothing." But a year ago, weren't we being sold the idea that the Republicans had a gigantic mandate to govern?

I'm not inspired to say anything positive about this article but I would like to put in a good word for Arwa Mahdawi whose columns in The Guardian -- and whose lesbian feminist perspective -- I often find to be worthwhile.

The 'liberal' New York Times has been running a Republican comms operation at least since the run up to the Iraq war.

I'm probably not supposed to infer from this study that I can have more than one hot dog every couple of months.

The Lesbian Celebrity Index Fund is a great long-term investment but there may be some short-term volatility.

Even if the Post were to implode completely, Bezos only looks weaker if you assume he wanted to own a successful media outlet. If you assume however that he acquired the Post to advance oligarchy, he's doing just fine.
June 5, 2025 at 5:31 PM
The state, and fate, of the Washington Post notwithstanding Bezos has not "lost his way." He is doing everything in his considerable power to improve his own lot in the world.

"The former president’s stubbornness and narcissism led to disastrous Trump victory" is a garbage take. Biden is now a topic for historians, not a topic for the current Democratic leadership, such as it is.

I think in this context, "for here" means not wrapped up because you are going to eat it immediately, and "to go" means the vendor should wrap it up in a brown paper bag because you are sneaking it back into your office.

Of the Freud-Marx-Darwin big three only Darwin holds up. And lots of people who followed/follow him were/are dreadful. Darwin is like Jesus in that regard.
