I recently acquired a vintage script for Floating Weeds (1959) by the Japanese film director Ozu Yasujiro, written a few years after Tokyo Story. It's absolutely exquisite. Ozu and co-writer Kogo Noda viewed their scripts as literature, and once completed, they were little changed during filming.

Stories allow us to transcend time and place, shape our perspective on what it means to be human. When you enter a story, something magical happens. For me, entering a story on screen is where the greatest magic of all happens.
