The story of Mum's glass...
After many aborted attempts, I finally started something a year ago today. A fitness journey of sorts.

I lost a fair bit of weight and am now slowly, sustainably building some muscle for the first time in my life 🤣

Feeling stronger, healthier and more alert. Plus, having fun!

When you try, and fail, to combine your BBC Breakfast business duties with a spot of trick-or-treating.

My bucket, still, does not runneth over.

Have you ever bought a greeting card from Temu?

Designers say hundreds of their images are being stolen with the ripped-off versions making fraudulent sellers thousands of pounds.

Now, Temu has said it will remove them more quickly.

Today is National Coming Out Day.

This year, I shared my story with the BBC Pride staff network for an article for the internal paper Ariel.

I thought I'd post it here too.

It's a very common story really.

If you're heading to the EU from this Sunday, you might want to have a watch of this from BBC Breakfast today.

Changes are coming!

And yes, they might be the beginning of the end for a stamp in your Passport when you travel to some countries.

Have you had issues with InPost? Waiting for Vinted deliveries?

Customers are reporting serious disruption: delays, parcels without tracking updates for several days, uncollected items.

InPost has apologised, calling it "a software integration issue".

Having the space to really talk, express opinions and share experience is so rare these days.

So kudos to Sean Farrington, @felicityhannah.bsky.social and my colleagues for creating this new pod.

Proper big bosses talking at length.

This was a beautiful moment of symmetry.

I first saw @ollyalexander.music-social.com with Years and Years at Glasto in 2015. It was the same day as London Pride and Olly made a beautiful speech.

Then, I got to see them more than a decade later at Manchester Pride. Very special.

Just when I thought I'd covered every plant theft pun going, my BBC Sounds colleagues bring 'shrubbery snatchers' to the party!

Amazing!

Full report is well worth a three-minute listen...

Happy Birthday Mum!

I hope wherever you are you're having a blast, dancing away, enjoying some cake, maybe having a tipple.

Missing you today, as always.

Been thinking a lot about the line writer Jonathan Harvey said at his Scene festival event in Manchester recently: "to entertain is to make people stop and listen". How true.

Keys.

From living in temporary homeless accommodation, after my late Mum had her dream home repossessed when I was a kid, to flat owner.

Can't quite believe it.

Couldn't have done this without my amazing husband. And the bank, of course.

What did we do for our first anniversary? We went back to the theatre we got married in. We walked the same way. Except this time we came back with a bit of the theatre. Some lovely seats!

Every fan thinks their club is the hardest done by.

Now there’s data to prove who’s truly had it worst.

Using 13 Opta-powered metrics, @ladbible.bsky.social and Sky Bet ranked every team across English football to reveal which fanbases have suffered the most.

War of the worries.

I have a feeling it WON'T catch on, but it's how I'm describing today's interest rates decision.

Why?

Which worry is the Bank of England most worried about? Which worry is worse?

Inflation or the economy?

Buying your first place is an adulting revelation, isn't it?

There's the cost and stress, obviously, but also the legal/paperwork overload.

Just when I thought I'd seen most things in life I am suddenly considering a Conveyace from 1789 and terrorism insurance for a car park.

Thanks to the Roving Canal Traders Association for being impeccable hosts today.

And to Steve Lammiman for the 🎥, Marta Newman for the production.

Some really interesting points made about the revival of our canals, but also the climate challenges and funding issues facing Canal & River Trust.
July 25, 2025 at 1:35 PM
From coal and cotton to bars and bakeries!

I'm off to Market Drayton tomorrow to find out for BBC Breakfast how our canals are once again helping to keep our economy afloat.

Except it's leisure now, not industry.

But could a few challenges barge in to spoil the party?
