This district, to put a finer point on it, is centered in a town where the Democratic mayor has acknowledged voting for trump 3 times. So I don’t think the “overperformance” here is really an indication of voter sentiment on national politics

He ended up getting 83% of the vote. There are a lot of districts in RI where a substantial number of voters regularly support Democrats for state legislative races and Republicans for president. Thus we have a nearly 90% Democratic legislature and the state voted 43% for trump
