My UI is dogshit and my icons are pixel art placeholders.

Should I release a demo knowing that they are bad/unintuative and can potentially hinder enjoyment?

Difference is about a month of work to get UI into a reasonable spot.

I gave over 50 people keys to my game.

While the game has a lot of room to improve, the last few weeks of polish paid off big time. There are people who played for over 5 hours!

Scaling back feels weird. I’m not deploying a new build this week because I’m not happy with all the new stuff that went in. I could do partial updates for sure, but I’ve been doing this a bit intensely.

So now I’m trying to relax with the *** on my shoulder screaming i didn’t do enough this week.

I think I went full circle. There was a time when Dash Dash Dead had production ready code in prototype stage and there are the horrors I'm committing nowadays to move at incredible speeds.

Firing off builds to steam for the 5th time a day feels quite like this.

I caught myself being angry too many times over things I have no control of. So I have a few rules for that now.
If I see AI gen images, I block. You have a choice to use whatever you feel is best for you. I have a choice to not consume what hurts artists.

I’ve played about 1,5 hours of AC Shadows and it’s so beautiful! Especially loved that there is an option to play an intended story!
If it wouldn’t involve literal YEARS, close to a DECADE of making one of these, I’d jump on the opportunity to contract on a title.

For my next game (not the one I'm currently working on) there will be no UI. I am done with it. Hate every single part of making UI's work.
Godot is probably one of the easiest to do UI in, but the best tasting shit is still shit.

Sometimes features come from cool ideas. Sometimes they come from inspiration or Game XY did it. SOMETIMES the feature is made in a specific way because that’s the only way I managed to make it work and I spent days on trying to make it work the nice way and it’s a steaming pile of spaghetti.

Making a quest system when there are only a few things permanent and most of the world is generated, spawned when needed is an interesting challenge. I haven’t seen a lot of it in games lately.
