Cue the usual suspects carrying on how Halifax was so much better 50 years ago with blackened buildings, industry dying on its arse and not a patch of green to be found. Or have they not made it to this forum yet?

Fair point Darius - the good people of Elland never fail to point out their historical precedence. They’d have needed to build a Cathedral though. Something disproportionate like Lutyens.

Halifax was powering its way to being a city, then allowed little Wakefield to get the Cathedral. I wonder if the hill wasn’t in the way if Halifax and Huddersfield would have merged into west Yorkshire’s second city?

No. I also think Schenker is a steaming pile, Charles Rosen’s Classical Style is a printed cry for help and Kodaly is a cult. I do think undergrads should develop skills across the board - arranging, composing, musical direction, singing and one of keyboard or guitar.

Halifax’s setting, crushed up against Beacon Hill, is incredible. It’s particularly stunning in the autumn.
