Realms of Gold

A bit of a jumble at the moment, really. Writer? Landscape. Poetry. Wrote some books about Glaciers, now writing one about Lakes. My circus, my monkeys. Haiku. Two cats and a collie. Retired UK Geography lecturer & NTF. Around 53N, 2.7W.
For me they have some great moments and add up to something special, but also have long sections in the middle that I find less inspiring. It’s quite a time commitment to read the whole thing.

Stephen Donaldson… that takes me back to my student days, 1980-81!

The #FirstBirdOfMyDay was a Robin clacking away in the hedge as the sun started to come up as we had our early walk along the canal.

Here you go… it’s just not in that omnibus edition. Here’s my copy with its pals.

Isn’t it funny how different people like different things! I really like Gormenghast and Titus Groan, but just can’t get into Titus Alone, the third in the series!

Oh but I forgot this, and this… and these…

The #FirstBirdOfMyDay today was a Tawny Owl, entertaining me with his call somewhere in the nearby countryside as I was lying awake in bed at 3am this morning. Or perhaps he was the last bird of yesterday.

I do have one slim volume of Canadian verse… but certainly it is not an area where my library is well endowed.

It’s a relaxing spot for a morning walk!

My organisation isn't that logical. I put an explanation on my blog. petergknight.wordpress.com/2025/11/05/h... Some shelves are logical, but mostly the organisation is based on where the book fits into my personal history: where I got it, how long I've had it, who gave it to me...

Yes that can be a problem - re-reading can take you back to the time of the previous read, and that might not always be good.

Calvino and Eliot are both on my list too!
November 4, 2025 at 4:27 PM
Yes, it's hard to sacrifice new stuff to make time for re-reads.
November 4, 2025 at 3:26 PM
yes, 100 years is on my list, too!
November 4, 2025 at 3:25 PM
Yes, exactly.
November 4, 2025 at 3:13 PM
Ha ha that's impressive. I love that.

We got rid of some books during a downsizing house move a few years ago, and still regret the loss to our library!
