I’m spread too thin.
Ada wanted to go to the beach on a cold drizzly Saturday. This squirrel was happy about our decision. That’s because we gave it a Subway sandwich.

Red River (1948) seemed familiar, like I saw it when I was a kid or without paying much attention as I drew or just my bad memory. Then it hit me. I knew it from a clip of Montgomery Cliff and John Ireland subtlety flirting while comparing guns in the Celluloid Closet (1995).

Reading Vegas: A Memoir of a Dark Season (@McNallyEditions) makes me think of myself as a version of author John Gregory Dunne, a decent scribe going through a midlife crisis, whose wife, like my own, is a better writer. But we’re not famous. Ambition is for losers. #FridayReads

Deadline at Dawn (1946) is notable for its screenplay by playwright Clifford Odets, being the sole movie directed by stage director Harold Clurman and the first film noir collage I’ve drawn in a long time.

Guilty Bystander (1950) is almost as if Ed Wood made a noir, which he did (Jail Bait), but that wasn’t released until fours years later.

Framed (1947) is a noir I somehow missed until now and, like them all, it’s entertaining, hits the spot like comfort food and there’s always a scene speeding around in a sedan.
