Physicist & Head of Physics. Author. Compulsive maker of resources.

Physics teachers are unicorns; look after them. 🦄

Hundreds of free teaching resources at sciencedoctor.school.blog, ranging from KS3 science to KS5 physics.
I'm in between projects so tentatively looking at what's next. I've been bowled away by the success of my KS3 books so looking at doing the same for Physics GCSE.

Some sample sheets can be found here:

Feedback welcome!

Been a while since I've uploaded anything new to the site. I recently needed to make a new sheet on scalars on vectors, so have uploaded that here:

Schools are *not* ready for this:

-Open homework in google chrome
-Right click and go to "search with google lens"
-Google lens pops up on the right side and answers the question

Massive implications for homework. This was an Isaac physics "A level challenge 2" question.

For context, I have made my concerns clear to AQA. They doubled down on "Some type 1a supernovae are brighter than expected".

They are dimmer.

We shouldn't *have* to appeal to voices of authority to help here - it's a clear error. The AQA astro teaching guide correctly says this on page 41.

***BOOK RELEASE DAY***

The book I've always wanted for AQA A level physics is out. It has:

-A page of notes, a page of questions *and* a QR code to a video lesson on each topic
-A page on each required practical, with example calculations
-A full set of exam papers
-Answers

🚨🚨Out next week🚨🚨

I'll be very excited to finally see the physical product

The slow decline of sciencedoctor.school.blog traffic over the summer term!

Have a good summer all!

Harper Collins author party this evening. Very out of my comfort zone but very enjoyable!

Coming soon

Hello BlueSky! As my A level work with Collins comes to an end (more on this soon), I'm considering what the next project will be.

Considering making my KS4 physics booklets more "professional" and doing a workbook similar to the KS3 science one. Thoughts welcome on the format of a sample sheet.

ChatGPT thinks AQA is wrong...

(I'm writing a revision guide on this and want to get it right!)

Hi Bluesky, is it the Hipparcos scale (spelt like AQA do in their specification)? Or the Hipparchus scale?

Ella has picked my wife’s birthday as the day to do her first steps ❤️

Haven't used the other place for a while, but changing my profile info to indicate that I have no intention to return. I should deactivate but will leave it dormant unless things change.

Hi Bluesky - I'm writing a revision guide & there's a line on the AQA A level physics spec where I *still* don't really know what it means.

I once asked AQA but they never replied...

What on Earth does "Appreciation of momentum conservation issues in the context of ethical transport design" mean?

With the death of Twitter, I worried that traffic to sciencedoctor.school.blog would die too.

However, 2024 has beaten previous annual traffic already and has been the year it has hit a *million* total downloads.

Glad it seems to be surviving.

Oh bugger it, I made my thoughts known. Apparently I’m in the mood for an online disagreement. I’ve learnt nothing from Twitter!

Visiting JET in Culham has definitely been the best day trip I’ve been on in recent years.

Daughter is able to say four words now, in the order she learnt them:

-Mama
-Dada
-No
-Cat

And if you say snake to her, she will hiss. 🐍

She is also an absolute expert block builder.

For anyone wondering what the answer is.

And just to reiterate, teachers really are the experts in implementing school curricula. Not academics at universities who don’t have a strong feel for what are appropriate goals for students of that age phase. Teachers’ voices should be heard more strongly

Things are getting busier here, so here’s a reintroduction.

I’m Pete, a head of physics who believes that teaching is hard and should be made easier.

That’s why I made sciencedoctor.school.blog. There’s no point in us all making the same worksheet/booklet.

KS3 science - KS5 physics. Check it out!

I’m really enjoying teaching fields this year.

Having a bit of a push on deriving equations & showing students where they come from. (Partially because a lot of derivations are on our new A level exam board - I like it!)
