The Real Peter DeCourcy
@peterdecourcy.bsky.social
eLearning expert, Top-10 in Canada, First Generation, WCAG. I happen to know a lot. 25 years in online learning. Seen it all, mostly bad. I'm "working class" in the Marxian sense, not the popular usage. "Real" in the non-Lacanian sense.
I would imagine most citizens who are "aspirational billionaires" don't realize the economy is mostly a closed loop, not an endless ocean of money. In other words, most of the wealth that created tech billionaires was extracted from a collapsing middle class.

Everyone tangentially involved in education should read Labaree's "The Trouble with Ed Schools" and not reviews for the book, which is one way Ed School ideologues protect their core ideology. Ironically, Labaree says Ed School profs don't read books at any rate comparable to other programs.

I might do line dancing if it was to "Fight the Power" #OPSEU @opseusefpo.bsky.social

And then Bb sued D2L and an entire industry rallied around them with examples of "prior art." It was certainly an odd bit of history to live through...

Thanks for the trip down memory lane! Teaching digital correspondence courses in the late 90s. Waiting for Moodle to introduce a "Content" tool for it to be a viable LMS. I still think ANGEL is the best LMS. :) Blackboard killed them all...lol.

I would rather start with Herman/Chomsky's "Propaganda Model" from Manufacturing Consent, which many journalists are very consciously working within. That may clarify what free-floating signifiers like the "left" mean, in the US since most countries have broader limits of acceptable dissent.

I wear jeans. I've looked at myself wearing jeans, but that's pretty much what a Ken doll looks like in jeans.

But the graphic is fun as it interpolates Dunning-Kruger with the Gartner Hype Cycle for Emerging Technologies.

The evidence for LS is a misapprehension of the evidence for Dual Coding Theory. But, at one time, I think even Richard Mayer misunderstood Paivio's work. Either way, a discipline that kept repeating debunked "theories" in grad schools for years is something to behold. 😏

No, it's brilliant. I would not say anything otherwise. Tom deserves kudos. I'm thinking of unfolding a (seemingly) simple document into an entire course on WCAG/UDL (further design constriction: all on a single page).

Oh! Thanks! I thought the hover effect was just an artifact of the WordPress theme. Very nice. I may still want to get the whole thing on a single page with display options. Maybe modals. It's probably a much more fun project in my head.

It was heartbreaking. And weighs on me whenever a prof brings up sensitive issues. It was probably the greatest learning moment I had at University, and she dropped out of the program the next week. So, I can't remember or honour her name. 😒
