IIRC, the first issues of Wired were chock full of articles that promoted fully-connected houses as if it were a good idea. Ha ha. I never figured out if it was a case of demented optimism or another of their advertorial sales pitches.
Similarly, if iRobot goes out of business and its cloud shuts down, most Roombas should still continue to work in offline mode — pressing the physical button on the robot to start, stop, and dock it. However, they likely wouldn’t be controllable via the app for features like scheduling or specific room cleaning, or via voice commands. This potential dilemma just further highlights that cloud-connected devices should be enhanced by connectivity, not reliant on it. Last paragraph of featured article from The Verge

You bet. When that 'single issue' is marginalized peoples' civil rights. Equal rights means everyone's rights have equal priority. I've observed that people who will compromise one person's rights in the name of progress don't support anyone's rights except their own.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would like to have a word with you about 'more immediate violations of human rights'. It's not your place to prioritize other peoples' civil rights. Either everyone is free or no one is free.

I notice the majority of Newsom touts on this platform are well-fed, housed, white, CIS men and women. People who've most likely never suffered any serious, lasting privations. So it's easy to dismiss Newsom's profoundly immoral behavior as mere flaws...

That's hogwash. Any candidate who doesn't support everyone's civil rights is unfit for public office. What hear when read your comment is a confession you're not comfortable helping the unhoused and supporting everyone's civil rights. Dr. Martin Luther King addressed your ilk in April of 1963.

Separated at birth?

Newsom definitely has a strong charismatic personality. He's happy to dispossess trans people of their civil rights and harm homeless people just to score votes. Which informs me he's more concerned with his personal advancement than anything else. He's absolutely what we don't need.
