Getting about the outdoors on bikes, feet, skis & boats, working at NHS Medical Physics, worrying about the world in a leftish way, increasing doses of urbanism, searching for a Round Tuit around Dundee, Scotland...
Coffee time, and how better to spend it on a nice day than looking at a queue of cars backing up waiting for one of the 2389 spaces...

It's a great piece of engineering... but the Forth Bridge is *the* bridge!

Perhaps the Ranty Sarcasm Detector is malfunctioning? 😉

The Drumochter path...

Never take pictures during the gig as I'm preoccupied with... the gig, but here's C. Duncan's band's gear awaiting their arrival at Stirling Tollbooth not long ago...

That's not a cycle...

*These* are cycles

"According to the OS this is a road, narrow, but an actual road"
"Do they have a symbol for 'Needs machetes and scythes'?"
"Looking at the Heat Map... oh... not many people came this way... and they all turned back before now. Maybe there's a reason for that..."

And here it is...

There was nothing *wrong* with the V, but just like there was nothing *wrong* with the TSR, the SST is better, while there was nothing wrong with the V, the Maggie is just better...
Small things and certainly not necessary, but better.

Here's one we had on Friday (dunes, woods and a café stop for lunch)...

I wonder if we're at cross purposes?

How is the position in the initial picture particularly different to reclining on e.g. this, and if it is how is being on the bike easier than on this?

My ride is here.
All aboard the Bennie Railplane!

If you see this post, quote with a bridge from your gallery

When I changed my Moulton earlier this year I decided to go with North Roads on the new one, allows me to ride in a very dignified upright stance but still lean over them for e.g. "interesting" descents.
These are Pashley ones, The Traditional Cycle Shop swapped them out FOC for the standard flats.

And it's not so much long term investment as being able to stay where there aren't any hotels to stay in at any price...

As Gaz suggests keep the fuel as warm as possible. Also it helps to use a wick to light it, otherwise it can take a while to get it going.

But a propane mix works fine in Proper Cold, especially using a preheat loop, as shown here, but you need it lit to start with for the preheat to work!

Having previously had Adam Tranter as active travel commissioner certainly didn't hurt when it came to getting some good stuff in place in Coventry, but I did see this recently, details at forum.cyclinguk.org/viewtopic.ph... 😔
December 11, 2024 at 7:30 AM
@adamtranter.bsky.social had you seen this change to the Coundon Cycleway in Coventry... Just read about in the @cyclinguk.bsky.social forum at forum.cyclinguk.org/viewtopic.ph...

I know you've stepped down as the West Midlands active travel commissioner now, but perhaps worth following up?

Or just... a normal bag.

Why carry a bag on your body when the bike frame can take the weight for you?

I have Pashley "North Road" swept back bars on my general purpose bike, makes for a ride where I can sit up straight or crouch forwards for aero/descending according to choice.

The cats thing...

Here's the Wilsation (no audio so you'll have to imagine the purring for yourself)

Options where the smaller members get to do some of the work are available (and highly recommended once they're big enough, to give them a bit more agency)

And here we have Vera's co-cat, Willow (a White & Black Squeaker), "helping" me with a sudoku...
November 16, 2024 at 5:43 PM
Get one of these and make them work!
November 13, 2024 at 1:20 PM
Hijacking this and moving off at a slight tangent, the *real* answer is at least once they're a little older you shouldn't need to do it at all, they can do it themselves.

(I took this the last day I escorted them, I think they were in P4 & P5 (Y3/Y4), route a mix of this and "real roads")
