🔥 Great news: Chubb, the world's largest property & casualty insurer, rules out insuring the East African Crude Oil Pipeline - the 30th insurer to do so! The #StopEACOP campaign now challenges other major insurers (AIG, Liberty Mutual etc) to do the same. 🔥 static1.squarespace.com/static/5fc07...

The #TeslaTakeDown movement hits Elon Musk where it hurts. 🤜🚘🤛 Read my portrait of this inspiring movement on the #SwissClimateRambles blog. swissclimaterambles.substack.com/p/taking-dow....

Well done, #TeslaTakeDown: In Switzerland, Tesla sales dropped by 65% in the first quarter of 2025 compared with last year. ⛑️ During the same year, Tesla dropped from 8th to 17th place among car brands in the country. www.srf.ch/news/wirtsch...

The US employees of these Swiss companies would probably agree. Like with other small donors, their donations overwhelmingly backed Kamala Harris over Donald Trump last fall. We see you! (Ends)

In spite of their rhetoric, insurers are not underwriting the green transition: only Axis Capital (by a large margin!), Aviva and Munich Re insure more renewable than fossil fuel projects, the new #InsureOurFuture scorecard finds. Check it out at tinyurl.com/y9kywkt5!

Hi there from the Swiss pocket knife of climate advocacy!

The copyright for all images – this one of Rottal cabin – is with SAC. You can access the new study (in German and French) at share.skyfish.com/sh/qmj5sxry/....

Climate impacts like the drying up of freshwater sources will affect hundreds of millions of people across the world. SAC and its cabins are an essential part of Swiss identity, and they offer an important voice to sensitize Swiss people about climate change. (Weisshorn cabin)
November 28, 2024 at 10:05 AM
Due to retreating glaciers and snow fields, 54 cabins (36%) may lose access to their sources of freshwater by 2050. Climate change will affect the hikes and climbs you can undertake from 130 cabins (86%), and the number of cabins accessible across glaciers will drop from 22 to 6. (Forno cabin)
November 28, 2024 at 10:05 AM
Melting permafrost and retreating glaciers will potentially destabilize the foundations of 65 cabins (42%) by 2050. A few cabins already had to be moved because of this problem. Rockfall and debris flow will threaten the access routes to 89 cabins (59%). (Rothorn cabin)

🏔️ The Swiss Alpine Club SAC maintains a network of 152 cabins throughout the #Swiss Alps, which offer a fantastic service to hikers and climbers. A new SAC study finds that #climatechange will affect these cabins “to a large degree”. A brief 🧵 on some of the findings! (Image: Baltschieder cabin) 🏔️

How Swiss export credits for fossil fuel projects undermine international climate action and Switzerland’s credibility ahead of COP29: read my oped in today’s @TagesAnzeiger, Zurich’s main daily newspaper (in German only).

Excellent story on the topic in today's @LeCourrier (in French): https://lecourrier.ch/2024/09/23/energie-fossile-assuree-par-la-suisse/

Since January 2023, Switzerland has approved support for seven new overseas fossil fuel projects, including a multi-billion dollar gas power plant in Turkmenistan, reputed to be one of the world’s most corrupt and repressive countries.
November 16, 2024 at 10:15 AM
Last month, a report by @IISD_Energy found that the original CETP signatories reduced their support for international fossil fuel projects by two thirds in 2023. Undermining this positive trend were however the US, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands.

👎🇨🇭 In violation of its much-touted climate and anti-corruption commitments, Switzerland is handing out public guarantees for international fossil fuel projects like candy. Check out a quick thread on this scandalous behavior! 🇨🇭👎

Kathleen Dean Moore is right: hurricanes should not be named after innocent Debbies and Ernestos, but after climate criminals. Name future climate disasters after @Citi, @BlackRock and @LloydsofLondon for continuing to fuel climate breakdown!...

My parting message to the insurance industry in @InsurenaceERM: "You do not want to tell your grandkids 20 years from now that you could have done more to avoid a climate catastrophe but thought others were better placed to do that." #InsureOurFuture...
