Trump and his team have sought to use government power to go after Bolton since his first term even when it meant ignoring normal standards, so much so that his own assistant attorney general quietly resigned rather than go along any more, as disclosed in "THE DIVIDER" w/ @sbg1.bsky.social

Twenty years ago today, "Kremlin Rising" was published, our effort to document how Vladimir Putin had rolled back Russian democracy and consolidated power in his own hands. Two decades later, his grip appears as firm if not firmer than ever. @sbg1.bsky.social

Presidents are naturally men of hubris -- it takes considerable self regard to believe you're more qualified than 330 million others to lead the country. But as in all things, Trump takes it to a new level.

Love the @WSJ headline writers on today's front page. Yes, it's about a racehorse, but still, such a nice thought.

When Trump threatened to fire Jay Powell in his first term, the Fed chief was told it would be illegal but he would have to personally contest it in court. Privately, Powell vowed that he would "spend my last nickel fighting" it, as @sbg1.bsky.social and I reported in "The Divider."

Interesting to note what book Netanyahu was carrying out of the White House after his meeting with Trump. Does every foreign leader bring his dog eared copy of "Art of the Deal"?

Pretty cool. Natalie Portman is among the readers of "Autocracy, Inc.," the powerful book by @anneapplebaum. It's a smart and important read, explaining the web of corruption among the world's dictators.

Other presidents have been frustrated by court rulings they didn't like but recognized the importance of abiding by decisions. When the Supreme Court ruled against Bush 43 in a war-on-terror case, he was urged to overrule the justices but refused, as reported in "Days of Fire."

This is not the first time Trump has shocked Jordan's King Abdullah. In his first term, as reported in "THE DIVIDER," Trump once called and said, "We've got a great deal for you! We're going to give you the West Bank!" Abdullah panicked. "I thought I was having a heart attack." @sbg1.bsky.social

This chart shows how much of an outlier Trump is historically. Even Biden, who had the next highest disapproval when he took office, still had a plus-20 differential. news.gallup.com/poll/655955/...
