While we fixate on aligning imaginary future minds, real algorithmic systems are misaligning lives right now. The future isn't inevitable—it's a political choice. And that choice shouldn't belong to those racing to build the systems they claim only they can control.

The discourse makes mundane regulation seem quaint. Why fix algorithmic bias when AGI might transcend human prejudice? Why address workplace surveillance when work itself might soon be obsolete? It's easier to debate hypothetical panopticons than dismantle actual ones.
