I picked up a copy of Gardens of Stone by Nicholas Proffitt while waiting for admin to be carried out when i arrived at basic training.
The story has stayed with me for over 30years (i’ve still got the book, a bit worse for wear now).
The film was ok, the late James Earl Jones was very memorable.

We had a juvenile Jackdaw, 3 days he hopped round the garden, being fed by mum and dad.
Day 4 a young cat appeared, sad to report young Jack hasn’t been seen since.
