The story goes on to show how the East End changed over the 20th century. Really looking forward to teaching this in the next couple of weeks

Some fantastic world building images in the Jack London book to really immerse students into the East End of London in 1900. If you've not read it, I would heartily recommend it

Inspired by the story of Angel Meadow in Manchester for teaching Industrial living conditions for OCR B, I've done something similar for the East End of London in the 20th century using the amazing The Abyss of London by the aptly named Jack London. This story really helps build the East End world

Strongly agree. So many 17th century enquiries miss out King James I. He’s not just fascinating but his reign is crucial foundational knowledge to understand what comes next. Here’s a story we use to kick off our enquiry.

Revised story of Frederick Douglass to work as a full lesson to really support students to see the big picture of the Civil War and Reconstruction. My students find this enquiry hard and the idea is to see the era through the eyes of Frederick Douglass but focus them on the key takeaways.

Shout out to those involved in Connected Worlds. I adapted some ideas on Samuel Pepys and this landed so well in teaching the Restoration. The story made abstract concepts so concrete enabling my students to think deeply about change in the 17th century. You could hear a pin drop during the story.

Whole class feedback. Took in sample of 8 books - deliberately selected below target students and those who wanted feedback. Share key learning from the sample with rest of class for whole class feedback. Took just 30 mins but great way of checking understanding and useful whole class feedback

Fort Laramie story original from 2024
New revised version in 2025
Love taking on board new ideas and reflecting on how things have gone to make further adaptations to resources
Newer version is simpler, clearer takeaways and crucially has line numbers

This year I've been working on expanding the scope of our 17th century enquiry to begin with James I and end with Glorious Revolution & Act of Union - it really gives much more of a sense of the nature of political and social change and helps to really put the Civil War into context. #historyteacher

Some nice revisions to our medieval public health lesson focusing on monasteries. Really like the world-building using artistic interpretations and physical site evidence around Fountains Abbey. #historyteacher

Really enjoyed starting Year 8 with our revised 17th century enquiry. Beginning with the story of King James I sets everything up so wonderfully well with some rich world building and supporting key concepts and knowledge to lead into a study of the English Civil War #historyteacher

Back to Beverley to pick up my wife’s cello ready for her big new challenge. Was happy to combine it with this iconic Parkrun. Beautiful parkrun and running alongside the cows.
