I'm all for principle and defending the unwritten rules. But when the GOP's animating force is keeping power at all costs, bending every rule and breaking/litigating the ones that won't bend, then standing on principle is bringing a squirt gun to a knife fight.

From a legal standpoint, Garland did it by the book. You either charge someone or you don't. You don't do a big oppo data dump if you don't charge someone. Now, that doesn't preclude a legislative/political investigation. It was the failure of D congress folks to investigate.

The other reason for oligarch affinity for MAGA is bribery capitalism. You pay for the ballroom/settle the lawsuit/make large political contributions/appear at the inauguration, you get what you want since gov't decisions are no longer based on public interest.
