It's a very strange place, so unusual to see chalk turf on the flat. I must have seen more Dark Green Frits in my one-day visit than for the rest of my life put together. This is what much of England would have looked like before intensive agriculture.

Utterly mad. They're released in their tens of thousands and do untold harm to invertebrate populations so directly detrimental, not just to the invertebrates, but to native birds which depend on them. That their release is allowed at all is incomprehensible.

No, "Briton" relates to the indigenous population of the southern part of the island of Britain, now most closely relevant to the Welsh. The term certainly does not include Scots, English, or those in Ulster. UK card, perhaps, as long as that remains. I think it's a media term anyway, not Starmer's

If you're a culture that feels itself oppressed by a coloniser or the senior partner in a Union, then it's understandable that you'll want to express your identity strongly and the "oppressor" tone its own down. Couple that with Cromwell and his ilk. The Times did an article on this some years ago.
