Starting to go through some of my favourite photos I've taken this year - this one from a cave overlooking the beach in Malta stands out.
It was bombed heavily in WWII, before being seized by the SFR Yugoslavian government. The buildings were reconstructed, and there's no sign of any damage today.

This is Fantast Castle, also known as Dunđerski Palace. It was built in the Serbian (then part of Yugoslavia) countryside by Bogdan Dunđerski in 1919, mostly to prove he wasn't broke.

There's a lot of abandoned buildings scattered around Serbia, but the story of the castle behind this gate is particularly interesting.

Parts of it feel very Eastern European, some parts feel almost french, and one particular street reminds me of Leichhardt in Sydney.

America has never been high on my list of countries to visit, I've always figured there are most interesting places in the world. Spent a couple of days in NYC last week, and was pleasantly surprised. Beautiful place.

I still can't believe places like this are only 30kms from central Berlin. 30kms from central Sydney or Melbourne you're still in the suburbs.
