Lawyer and Michigan fan. Re-Blueskys (if that’s a word) are neither an endorsement nor likely to happen.
Reading comments on this site makes me feel young again — specifically like I’m in 4th grade and it’s recess.

I was jumping in because I saw your post on Jon Chait’s feed. I wasn’t so much asking you to defend your view, but expressing my own perspective that his work has been consistently critical of Trump and allies.

I feel like a lot mainstream liberals have called out excesses like you described (Michelle Goldberg in the Times, Elissa Slotkin, Obama and others) without experiencing the same level of vitriol.

Cheryl, I’m curious where got that impression. His columns over the last 15-20 years were sharply critical of W, broadly supportive of Obama and Biden, and consistently condemned Trump. He’s had differences with progressives but so do many mainstream liberal writers and politicians.

I’m not sure how Jonathan Chait fits into this group. His two books are one attacking W’s economic policies and the other championing Obama’s policies

I don’t think moderate and neutral are synonymous. Pelosi’s relative moderation didn’t make her neutral during the first Trump administration.

It seems to me that the person arguing that someone else’s positions are disingenuous has at least some burden to point out specific inconsistencies or inaccuracies rather than just saying “it is in there somewhere”

It seems like focusing on intraparty fights vs challenging the Republicans where possible now and winning back the House in 2026 is a terrible idea. Whether than recruiting candidates already Democratic districts why not focus on flipable seats?

It sounds like you consider the New York Times editorial board and Jonathan Chait to be examples of reactionary centrism. I realize that ideological definitions are subjective, but it’s hard for me to see supporting mainstream Democratic positions/candidates and opposing Trump as reactionary.

Ha — totally agree. There should be a shot clock on ref reviews. I was glad I got to say hello to you before the game.

It was a late arriving crowd (and I was part of that) but it seemed pretty full 5 or so minutes in.

You’re likely right though his 2003 season was impressive and I think that
he improved as much as any Michigan QB

Can’t tell who the Colt is.

My sense is that Democrats felt like their response to Trump 1 was unfocused and scattershot, and that it ultimately wasn’t effective. That said there’s an obvious danger of normalizing the extremists by ignoring what’s happening.
