The event takes place just before the County Council’s 4:00 p.m. work session, where concerns about the integrity and independence of the IG’s office are expected to be raised again. “For more than 70 days, we've seen a respected IG targeted by a process full of conflicts of interest, conflicting messages, and suspected political interference,” said Peta Richkus, one of the rally organizers. “We’re calling on the Council to reject any nominee other than Kelly Madigan.” Since May, over 80 media stories have covered the controversy, with growing backlash from residents and good government organizations like Common Cause Maryland, Association of Inspectors General, Baltimore County Parent and Student Coalition, and other local civic coalitions. Madigan, an award-winning public servant, has been praised for her independent investigations and commitment to accountability.
